Vision Therapy & Sensorimotor Exams

Have you ever experienced blurry vision, double vision, or trouble focusing your eyes? These can be signs of problems with your binocular vision, and our experts can detect these issues during a sensorimotor exam. While a comprehensive eye exam assesses your overall vision and eye health, a sensorimotor exam evaluates how well your eyes work together as a team (or binocular vision) and how effectively they respond to visual stimuli.

When your eyes are properly aligned, they work together seamlessly to send a clear image to your brain. However, if there is a misalignment or dysfunction in your visual system, it can lead to a range of uncomfortable symptoms such as eye strain, double vision, headaches, and difficulty focusing.

Sensorimotor exams are crucial in assessing how well your eyes work together and with the brain to provide clear vision. During a sensorimotor exam, we perform in-depth testing to determine if there are any underlying issues affecting coordination between the eyes and brain. If necessary, we will develop a personalized treatment plan and provide vision therapy to improve your visual functioning and overall quality of life.

What to expect during the exam

During a sensorimotor exam, our optometrist will evaluate various aspects of your vision, such as eye teaming (how well both eyes work together), depth perception (the ability to perceive distances accurately), and eye movements (tracking and focusing abilities). Tests may involve following a moving target with your eyes, looking at 3D images to test depth perception, or focusing on objects at different distances. By conducting these tests, our eye doctor can identify any issues with your visual system that may be impacting your vision and ability to perform daily tasks.

Who can benefit from these exams?

Sensorimotor exams are a great option for patients who are experiencing:

  • Difficulty reading or learning
  • Frequent headaches and migraines
  • Eye strain and fatigue
  • Double vision or blurred vision
  • Dizziness and balance issues
  • Trouble focusing

Treatment for binocular vision dysfunction

Fortunately, most problems with binocular vision can be successfully treated with vision therapy. Vision therapy is a highly effective, non-invasive treatment designed to improve the way your eyes work together and how your brain processes visual information. Vision therapy is an effective treatment option for a range of conditions, including amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (crossed eyes), eye tracking issues, and convergence insufficiency. If we determine vision therapy is the best option for you, we will recommend specific exercises tailored to your needs to strengthen your eye muscles and improve coordination.

Everyone at Pleasant Optics is wonderful. I encountered at least 4 different people for 4 different aspects of my visit. Each one was extremely nice, knowledgeable and personable. They all made me feel comfortable and like I was the only patient there. This place is the best!!! Highly recommend if you are looking for a eye doctor.
